Francine In Retirement
Seeing Life Through Photography

It’s springtime and there is no better way to celebrate it than visiting our nations capital to experience the opening celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival.  The traffic and parking in the D.C. area is very difficult so I choose to go by USA Coach with Lenzner Tours and leave the driving to them.

Hands and mind free I was able to do what I love to do most, take pictures and meet new people.  On our first day we met our tour guide at the White House Visitors Center.  We listened to the history of the Cherry Blossom Trees.  We were able to stop for photo opportunities at the White House, The Washington Monument and visit The United States Botanic Gardens, one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America.  After that we boarded our coach to take our premium view reserved seats at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center to see the awsome National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony.  I especially liked Japan’s most popular female R&B recording artist MISIA.  She trilled us with her powerful five-octave range voice.  Another performance I enjoyed was that of Hideki Togi (one-of-a-kind msician, predominantly focused on two instruments, hichiriki, a bamboo flute and the sho, a set of bamboo pipes) and Iwao Furusawa, an award-winning performer and Japan’s leading violinist.  Togi and Furusawa’s collaborations are critally acclaimed.  I has included brief excerpts of these amazing musical artist in the videos below.

We ended our evening by enjoying a dinner served family-style at Carmines in Penn Quarter. Our menu included:  Stuffed Mushrooms, Mixed Green Salad, Clams in White Sauce served with Linguine, Vegetarian Marinara served with Penne, Chicken Marsala & Mushrooms, and Salmon Oreganto.  What a way to end an evening. Just think I will be able to experience another meal at Carmine’s in New York because they supplied s $150 gift card for my trip to New York that I won as part of the 2 Nights in New York City Package.

Below is a sample of the photos and video’s I took of our day one experience at the festival.  I hope you enjoy them.
