WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: RENEWAL

URBAN RENEWAL – TREE PLANTING

I was traveling along the main street of a Pittsburgh suburbs when I noticed trees being planted along both sides of the street in an effort for urban renewal.

I thought it would make a perfect example of renewal for The Daily Post at WordPress.com‘s weekly challenge.  See other entries on their link.

WHY TREES?

They clean our air. They create oxygen. They beautify our environment. Trees are particularly important in cities, where there is often very little green space. They create a noise barrier, making our streets quieter. They cool the air and ground around them, and they absorb rainwater and cleanse it of toxins. From the enormous Sycamore to the shrub-like Silky Dogwood, many species of native trees do well in the city. (Source: Nine Mile Run)

  1. love it!! now you’ll have to get shots of them when they’re in full leaf and in bloom (if they bloom).

  2. Very Nice 🙂

  3. Excellent response to RENEWAL theme, Francine. Nicely done.
I like the idea of follow on photos, too. You are right about the planting of trees being perfect.

  4. It’s great to see trees being planted. Over here at the moment lots of ash trees are being destroyed because a disease has come from Europe, so thousands will be lost and have to be replaced eventually 😦

  15. Perfect subject for “renewal!”

  16. love your idea for renewal Francine and I can’t wait to see them as they grow

  17. They are good size too – I guess they will soon be reaching upwards making a lovely tree lined avenue there .

  18. Planting a tree is such an act of faith. Very often, we’ll no longer be there to see it fully grown and in full glory. Yet, we plant the seedlings in the hope that those who follow us will admire and cherish “our work”.

  20. Great post, Francine! Gotta love trees, especially now – they pull carbon dioxide out of the air and give us back oxygen! They’re our best friends, and we’re our own worst enemies! 😉

  21. Thanks for sharing a post that makes us aware of the importance of trees to our planet and to all of us who lives in it. We are all responsible in making sure many years from now, the next generation will have the same chance to enjoy the gifts of nature.

  22. Trees are definitely important to the environment and the air we breathe. Great choice. 😉

  27. Francine, I love your vivacious spirit! I’ve been spending a lot of time indoors lately (still adjusting to this cold after two years of coastal living); and that is creating cabin fever! I’m so blessed to be able to stop by and see what new excitement is going on in your world. You are a gift!
    Many blessings,
    Sloan
