TRAVEL THEME: TRANSPORTATION
The challenge for Ailsa’s Travel Theme is transportation. We can be transported back in time without leaving the 21st century. A time before automobiles and airplanes. How do you think you would fare during those times?
STAGE COACH
Wells Fargo’s famous stage-coach was in town for the city’s Light Up Night. The horse-drawn carriages took part in a night-time parade around the city of Pittsburgh to kick off the holiday season.
HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE RIDE
During the holiday season, the city provided free horse-drawn carriage rides in the downtown area to aid with your holiday shopping or just for sight-seeing.
COVERED WAGON
Want to experience riding in a covered wagon? A little trip to West Virginia and the Blennerhassett Mansion for a candlelight dinner and wagon ride will do the trick.
If the stage-coach, horse-drawn carriage or covered wagon rides are not your cup of tea, try the train.
SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS TRAIN RIDE
It was used at one time to carry you out west to pursue your fortunes. Today you can take the Byesville Scenic Railway aboard the “Spirit of Christmas” train through the Appalachian hills and experience a dramatic presentation of the life of a coal miner.
If you must cross or ride on the rivers, how about boarding a paddle wheel boat. Board the Island Belle, a sternwheeler at Point Park, Parkersburg WV and cruise the river on a journey that will unfold into an enchanted world that existed over 200 years ago as you visit Blennerhassett Island where there is no electricity.
I hope you enjoyed my travels on turn of the century modes of transportation. How about transporting yourself over to Where’s my backpack? to see more entries to Ailsa’s challenge for the week. See the link above.
BE ENCOURAGE! BE BLESSED!

Yes, Francine, I did enjoy your travels on turn-of-the-century modes of transportation. I cannot help but marvel whenever I see a covered wagon. The thought of travelling cross country in one of those is mind-boggling. Such fortitude!

Great post Francine as it brought back memories of my maternal grandmother. She did her crazy, youthful thing as an entertainer on a Mississippi river boat. Picturing her as a dancing flapper is still something I have difficulty with as she was just my grandma! Thanks for the memories.

The mechanics of the stagecoach is amazing. Right down to the mechanisms that were created to make it easy for horses to pull the wagon without overstressing.
