“Nothing Gold Can Stay”
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to-day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Green occupies more space in the spectrum visible to the human eye than most colors, and is second only to blue as a favorite color. Green is the pervasive color in the natural world, making it an ideal backdrop in interior design because we are so used to seeing it everywhere.
The natural greens, from forest to lime, are seen as tranquil and refreshing, with a natural balance of cool and warm (blue and yellow) undertones. Green is considered the color of peace and ecology. However, there is an “institutional” side to green, associated with illness and government-issued green cards, that conjures up negative emotions, as do the “slimy” or “bilious” greens.

BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

Green is my favorite color, Francine, and not being able to see it is the worst thing about WInter for me. Your photos depict a beautiful array of the greens found in Nature. Nicely done.

Hi Francine,
you made me smile with your U-turn of thinking:
“… However, there is an “institutional” side to green, associated with illness and government-issued green cards, that conjures up negative emotions, as do the “slimy” or “bilious” greens…”

Such lovely green images, Francine. Here in Cornwall, I’m surrounded by so much greenery. It’s really amazing countryside.

It looks like most of the plants in your beautiful pictures are evergreens. I have a great fondness for those as they bring that much needed colour to a Winter garden. Many people think evergreens are boring but it’s not true as they have a whole range of shades from almost yellow to almost blue with many shades between. Oddly enough, it’s not my favourite colour but it is relaxing.

green is my favourite too, and now the four year old has decided it is her favourite as well … i know what you mean about institutional greens … hospital wards used to be pale sickly green …. but most greens are full of life, like forests and oceans …. your post is gorgeous thank you!

Love the green, Francine. Love the rebirth. Somehow I associate green with compassion. I also love the Ferguson poem. It reminds me of Pony Boy in the Outsiders. {{{hugs]}} Kozo
